The EduLabs Tablet Computer Difference In Education
One of the most compelling and intelligent features of the “Edulabs Smart-Cloud Learning System”, is although tablet computers play an important role within our learning system, we are not a tablet computer sales or manufacturing company, therefore we are tablet “Independent” not “Dependent” upon or beholden to one set manufacturers brand or model. As lifelong educators, we have purposely designed our business model and Learning System platform in this manner to give us much greater flexibility and control over product pricing, operating systems, contents and applications, hardware and software, customization and branding. This control and flexibility allows us to stay true to our mission to make high quality education affordable-available-accessible to and for one and all!
Edulabs utilizing tablet computers, Smartphones and other mobile and digital devices to deliver proprietary and 3rd party licensed contents and applications through our proprietary “Cloud-Based” learning environment; customized around the differentiated learning needs of students.
The Educational Advisory Committee of Edulabs Learning Solutions has spent the past several months objectively performing independent and rigorous product testing and evaluating of over 30 of the top tablet computers currently available in the market to determine which one or ones are the best suited for the educational market. Our testing included but was not limited to Apple’s IPAD’s 1 & 2, Samsung Galaxy 10.1 and Samsung Galaxy Tab, ASUS Transformer Eee, ACER Iconia 500 (both Windows and Android OS versions), Viewsonic G-Tabs and also their ViewPads 10Pro (which has a dual operating system of Android and Windows) and 10S (Android only) and a special Windows only version of the Viewpad 10S, Motorola Xoom, Blackberry Playbook, Dell Streak 10, HTC Flyer, HP Touchpad, LG Optimus Pad as well as several comparable high quality lesser brands.
The committee included but didn’t limit their testing and evaluations to:
- Hardware and software specifications
- Durability
- Battery Life
- Warranties
- Customer Service
- Product Features
- Functionality
- Pricing
- Special discounts and incentives for bulk or educational purchasing
- Customization
- Repair or replacement cost and procedures
- Production and delivery capabilities
- Content and applications
Whereas there are many excellent tablets in the market-place, not all of them are suited for use in education, therefore only a few met our extremely high standards and earned passing grades in our very tough grading system to be recommended for use with our proprietary “Cloud-Based” Learning System.
The 4 recommended tablet computers that have earned a passing grade are 1. Samsung Galaxy 10.1 2. ASUA Transformer Eee 3. ACER Iconia 500 (both the Windows and the Android versions) 4. The Viewsonic Viewpad 10s Android and a customized Viewsonic 10S Windows 7 OS only version.
Edulabs has worked with the Tablet manufacturers to develop customized and branded versions of their top selling models. The Edulabs Tablets are divided into two separate categories; 1. 3 models for Students in grades K-6 which is called the K.E.W.L. PAD (Kids Excited While Learning) and 2. 3 models for Students in grade levels 7-12 which is called the I.C.E. PAD (Intelligent Cloud-based Environment).

Advantages Of Tablets Over Traditional Books

Here are just some of the advantages that the Edulabs Tablets have over traditional educational textbooks
- You can buy an e-text book instantly with the help of the internet; it will take some time to download the book, but once you do you can start reading it immediately. However, in the case of traditional textbooks, you have to go to a bookstore and search for the particular book that you have in mind; if it’s a popular title, many times it’s not in stock and you’ll have to order it and may have to wait for days or even months until a copy is available.

- These days, you get huge discounts on most e-books titles available because the cost to produce and reproduce them is very low; that is typically not be the case with the traditional books as they are still fairly expensive to produce and with the cost of printing it is much more costly to reproduce than e-books.
- You need little space to store an e-book, you can store hundreds if not thousands of titles on one e-book reader.
- E-books are more portable than traditional educational textbooks; you can store up to five hundred full-length books at a time with the average storage capacity of many e-book readers. Trying to carry five-hundred books at one time would be quite a chore for even Superman.
- Many e-books are interactive; there are animations, audio clips, and videos embedded within the pages, or a link that is just one click away. This type of interactivity makes the reading experience much more engaging, exciting, educational and enjoyable.
- E-books are easily printable in a PDF format if you want to read them in a more traditional format. Often times getting a printout of even a rare book is less expensive then purchasing an original copy of one.
- You can adjust and modify the size of fonts when you read an e-book; you cannot do the same with traditional educational textbooks.
- E-book content, by design, is easily accessible and the information can be highlighted and searched for with ease without having to turn every page as in case of a textbook.
- E-books do not entail shipping costs; so, they are a much more cost-effective options for budget conscience students and for school Libraries. Many traditional Libraries are switching to e-Books for much of their content.
Why Use EduLabs Tablet’s & “Cloud-Based” Learning Environments In Schools?
- Tablets occupy a new space in technology, one which is still undefined to some extent, yet which is likely to be significant over time. The space is between the mobile space occupied by phones and iPods, and the portablespace which is where laptops and netbooks live. The new position in between these established areas is now called the ‘open’ space – as Edulabs Tablets largely do what the other devices offer yet also offers so much more and for a lower cost.
- Tablets and a “Cloud-Based” Learning Environment will help to personalize learning – it is widely recognized the 1 to 30 one-way knowledge-transfer model is fast becoming redundant. As teachers and lecturers begin to create new ways of tackling this issue, the Edulabs Learning System plays a useful role in this transformation.
- The end of networks? – Tablets together with a “Cloud-Based” learning environment could be the beginning of the end of the dominance of networks in education. How much time is wasted not being able to ‘log in’? How often is the network ‘down’? The Edulabs Tablet devices and “Cloud-Based” Learning Environment can hold all the apps and contents a teacher needs to store and a learner needs to access for a day/week/month/year term’s work. It can also cost effectively lay the foundation for a paperless learning system.
- It could also be the start of a large reduction in the role of the technician in providing the technical support many schools need with their technology. Too often teachers are over reliant technicians for everyday issues due to the over complicated nature of some technology. The Edulabs Tablet-Based “Cloud” Learning System needs little if any maintenance and installing the software is simple, quick and easy – there is little need for any technical support. This is important because it puts the teacher and school in control of their technology.
- No more ICT suites – too many schools segregate their technology from everyday teaching and learning by placing it in a dark, windowless room and timetabling when learners can access computers. Children are then herded in large groups along the corridor to use the computers. Thus technology becomes compartmentalized and discrete rather than ubiquitous and generic. The Edulabs Learning System opens up a schools entire technology platform, making it user and teacher friendly and reduces the schools’ technology expenditures.
- It’s a blank canvas – the scope for apps written specifically for teaching and learning is huge and constantly growing. Educationalists and students can work with developers to create new and innovative software which reflect the learner’s needs and expectations in technology. Essentially the Edulabs Tablets are tactile and engaging handheld devices which are transforming the way young people learn and will eventually earn.
